He comments: “We had over 40 applications to the Open Fund and it was exceptionally difficult to allocate the money we had available. It is pleasing that we have been able to support such a diverse range of projects from across the local area.”
The community groups receiving awards were presented with their cheques by the University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Shirley Pearce at an awards ceremony held at Loughborough Town Hall.
A total of £25k has been made available by the University for the Community Donations Fund. In January eight community groups received £5k from the Education Fund. Before the end of the current academic year in June a further £15k will be allocated. The Inside Out Fund of £5k will be awarded specifically to community projects members of University staff are involved in and the Strategic Fund of £10k will be allocated to a project in the community based on an assessment of local need.
Discussions with partner agencies over the allocation of this money are currently nearing completion.
